Remona Sanders MSW ’17 is featured on WGN 9 News as one of four finalists for the station’s 2024 Remarkable Woman of the Year Award.

Sanders is the founder and executive director of Inellas Restoration Center in Maywood. The nonprofit center provides supportive services to survivors of domestic violence, as well as educational programs, like a course in building healthy relationships offered to Proviso Township high school students.

Having grown up around domestic violence, Sanders enrolled in Dominican’s School of Social Work so that she could provide others with the kind of help her own mother never had, WGN reported. Two years after receiving her degree, she founded Inellas Restoration Center.

Domestic violence support groups are offered there weekly, free of charge.

“I think the most rewarding part is being able to have somebody open up and talk about what they are going through,” Sanders told WGN.

And stay tuned—the winner of WGN’s Remarkable Woman of the Year Award is expected to be announced on April 2.
