DU professor co-authors research finding CBD may inhibit COVID
Dominican University chemistry professor J. Brent Friesen has co-authored research finding cannabidiol, or CBD, may inhibit COVID-19 infection. The study, published Jan. 20, 2022, in Science Advances, found CBD, a product of the cannabis plant, can inhibit infection by the COVID-19 virus in human cells and in mice. The interdisciplinary team of researchers recommended clinical trials to determine whether high-purity CBD could eventually be used as a preventative or early treatment for COVID-19.
The research was featured in SciTechDaily.
Friesen, whose research interests include investigating the biological activity of natural products and plant extracts, is chair of the Physical Sciences at Dominican.
