General Notice: Canvas Functionality Restored

Canvas services have been restored following the recent service disruption affecting institutions across the country that utilize the Canvas learning management system operated by Instructure.

At this time, Dominican University has no evidence that our internal university systems or network infrastructure were compromised as part of this incident. Based on information currently provided by Instructure, the issue appears to have originated within the vendor environment and impacted numerous educational institutions nationally and internationally.

While Canvas functionality has substantially returned, the investigation remains ongoing. As a result, some intermittent service instability or delayed system behavior may continue as Instructure completes remediation and monitoring activities.

Out of an abundance of caution, we encourage all members of the university community to remain vigilant regarding phishing and social engineering attempts related to this incident. 

Specifically:

• Be cautious of unexpected emails, text messages, or pop-up prompts related to Canvas or other systems/activities

• Do not click suspicious links or provide credentials outside the official Dominican University login process

• Avoid responding to urgent requests involving passwords, MFA approvals, or account verification unless independently verified

• Report suspicious communications to DU-IT immediately. DU-IT can be reached at (708) 524-6888, via email at supportcenter@dom.edu, or in person at Lewis Hall #048. 

At this time, Dominican University is not requiring a password reset related to this incident. Should additional information emerge that changes the current risk assessment, we will communicate further guidance promptly.

DU-IT continues to actively monitor updates from Instructure and relevant cybersecurity partners. We appreciate the patience and partnership of our campus community during this rapidly evolving situation.
