Precious Porras, EdD

Vice President

Precious serves as the vice president for justice, equity and inclusion. She is responsible for equity initiatives campus wide. With over 86 years of progressive diversity and leadership experience working in higher education, she has significant experience in social justice and diversity education, program development, cultural competence and recruitment and retention of marginalized populations. Proud to be a first-generation college student, Precious was a TRIO participant (Upward Bound and Student Support Services) and is very passionate about increasing access to higher education for underrepresented populations, including low-income, first-generation and/or students of color. When not at work, Precious enjoys reading, exploring the Chicagoland area with her husband and daughter and playing with her dog.
 

Amy Omi

Assistant Director

Amy serves as the assistant director for the Office of Justice, Equity, and Inclusion. She coordinates cross-campus collaboration for cultural events and programming, integrates restorative justice practice into affinity and accountability groups, and leads the Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation initiative. She is deeply committed to building ongoing partnerships to resist white supremacy and challenge racist ideas, policies, and practices in order to better live into our university mission of building a more just and humane campus and world.

Cynthia G. Murillo Carbajal

Cindy is a third year graduate student in the Bachelor of Arts in Mediation and Conflict Resolution program. She graduated from Northeastern Illinois University with a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies. Cindy has worked as a paralegal in immigration law, and domestic relations/family law. Most recently, Cindy worked as a paralegal in criminal law helping people who have been wrongfully convicted. Previously, Cindy worked as a community organizer planning citizenship workshops and DACA clinics throughout Illinois training volunteers to complete citizenship applications. Cindy is passionate about social justice. She hopes to use her degree and legal knowledge to teach the next generation of social justice seekers. 

Ingrid Bustos

Undergraduate Intern

Ingrid is a junior at Dominican University majoring in history with secondary education. She is passionate about social justice works, especially when it comes to the undocumented community. She works closely with Amy Omi, and was an MLC fellow, UIA president and is also a Schmitt Scholar. All these opportunities have allowed her to gain teaching experience while also learning how to better advocate for a community.
