In this major, you’ll develop the programming skills to build software capable of processing large volumes of data and the statistical analysis skills to turn it into valuable insights. Combining the best of computer science and mathematics, this major will take you from multivariable calculus to machine learning. And with data playing an increasingly important role in decision making, you’ll examine the ethical dimensions of how data is used. You’ll be prepared for sought-after technology careers in business, government, health care, scientific research and beyond.

Practical experience is built into the curriculum. You’ll solve real-world problems in experiential learning challenges and practice the communication skills needed to present your findings. You will also complete an internship or a senior project. And you’ll have plenty of support along the way, from your professors, fellow students and dedicated advisors. You will be assigned two dedicated advisors—one from computer science and one from mathematics—who will check in with you regularly to help you identify goals and opportunities, track your progress and clear obstacles from your path. You’ll have access to tutoring in STEM and other disciplines, research and writing assistance, and more. Professors with real-life experience will connect you with internship and job opportunities. In small classes averaging just 16 students, you’ll forge lasting connections with classmates and faculty mentors.
