O'Connor Art Gallery Presents "Slowly, With Care"

Dominican University's O'Connor Art Gallery opens its winter 2020 exhibition, "Slowly, with Care," with a reception and artists' talk on Wednesday, January 29 from 4 to 7 p.m. Artists included in the exhibit will discuss their work at 4:30 p.m. The exhibition continues through March 6 in the O'Connor Art Gallery, located on the fourth floor of Lewis Hall, 7900 Division Street.

The exhibit focuses on notions of slowness, caregiving and meditation and includes work expressing attention to craftsmanship in sewing, fiber-based installation, ceramics, sculpture and oil painting.

Included in the exhibition are Joanne Aono, Sherri Denault, Holly Holmes, Kate Ingold, Jeffly Gabriela Molina and Gwendolyn Zabicki. Aono is a visual artist and farmer whose work addresses identity, immigration and the environment. She serves on the exhibition committee of the Riverside Art Center and directs the alternative art project, Cultivator-Chicago Art Exhibitions and Farm Art Projects. Denault's work often resembles things found in nature, using embellishments of thread, stitching and/or knots to slow the meditative process of creation. She serves as the education and outreach coordinator of the Nathan Manilow Sculpture Park in University Park, IL. Holly Holmes is a multi-media artist whose work varies between versions of nature and human interactions within the landscape.

Kate Ingold is a visual artist and poet working in a variety of media, including textiles made from recycled and new materials, stitched and etched drawings on digital prints, sculpture, video and performative art. Her poetry chapbook, Dream of Water, was published in 2008 by the Poetry Society of America. Jeffly Gabriela Molina is an interdisciplinary artist from Venezuela who came to the U.S. in 2007. She holds a master of fine arts degree in painting from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Gwendolyn Zabicki is a painter whose current work reflects the change in her relationship with time since becoming a mother.​
