This non-degree, 100% online program is designed to prepare current educators to help students with disabilities to fully develop their intellectual and social capabilities.

The Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS I) Endorsement program is designed for teachers who are either:

  • Currently employed and interested in earning their LBS I endorsement in a flexible format through evening classes, or
  • Interested in working with students with disabilities at the grade range of their current Professional Educator License

Upon completion of the endorsement coursework, candidates may complete additional coursework to receive a Master of Arts in Education degree.

Candidates may apply for the Learning Behavior Specialist endorsement upon satisfactory completion of the prescribed curriculum while maintaining a grade point average of 3.0 out of 4.0. In addition, candidates must: 

  • Hold a valid Professional Educator License (PEL)
  • Pass the Learning Behavior Specialist content test

The endorsement program can be completed in approximately three to four semesters.

Summer II 2026: May 29, 2026 

Fall I 2026: August 3, 2026 
Fall II 2026: September 28, 2026

Spring I 2027: December 11, 2026 
Spring II 2027: February 26, 2027

Learning Behavioral Specialist (LBS I) Learning Outcomes

  • Understand theoretical foundations of teaching the exceptional child
  • Identify general characteristics of children with disabilities within the LBS I scope
  • Apply general methods for teaching children with disabilities within the LBS I scope
  • Demonstrate psychological assessment of children with disabilities within the LBS I scope
