All students have received support from their families, mentors and friends to get to Dominican University. We recognize you want to stay well-informed on how to support your student throughout their first year (and beyond). Below is information that can help you support your student.
Prior to Your Student's SOAR Experience and Starting the Academic Year
  • Remind your student to send in all their official and finalized transcripts and academic scores (AP/IB/CLEP) prior to their SOAR date. This will allow our advising staff to best prepare course recommendations.
  • Students who received accommodations during their high school or previous college are strongly encouraged to connect with our Accommodations and Disability Access office (email ada@dom.edu) as early as April for Summer SOAR or November for Winter SOAR.
Supports and Opportunities
  • The Family Academy is a series of monthly sessions that inform families about university resources, provide an opportunity to meet other families, and learn how to support students throughout their educational journey. The sessions are all planned in coordination with university staff, faculty and students. Sessions are offered in both Spanish and English.
  • All colleges operate on an academic calendar that highlight very important dates. The more that students become familiar with the calendar the better they can prepare; review Dominican's academic calendar here.
  • Students will use a variety of technology and platforms as a DU student. Please encourage them to explore and become familiar with these Technology Recommendations.
