Become a leader in a growing field. An MSA from Dominican University’s Brennan School of Business will prepare you to excel in a rewarding career as an accountant.

The Brennan School of Business is one of Chicago's leading AACSB business schools offering a challenging, values-based environment where you will engage with faculty to learn business fundamentals and real-world skills that prepare you to thrive in a fulfilling business career while making the world a better place. We’re happy to accept career-changers without an undergraduate degree in accounting. Our MSA program will give you a foundation in tax and accounting rules and prepare you to sit for the CPA examination. Although not required for eligibility, a CPA review course after graduation is strongly recommended as final preparation for the examination.

A candidate for the MSA degree will normally need to complete 33 to 39 credit hours. The total number depends on the candidate’s undergraduate coursework and academic performance, which may result in the waiver of up to six courses. In addition to course waivers, students who have successfully completed relevant course work at another accredited graduate program may request to have two courses (maximum of six credits) transferred and applied toward degree requirements.

A Brennan MSA Is Different
  • Our rigorous MSA is optimized to ensure focus on student success and provide the skills employers seek: the ability to analyze problems critically, to communicate clearly and to respond to business challenges with integrity.
  • Our classes are small and our students are of varied backgrounds, resulting in a rich, immersive learning experience.
  • Our faculty bring a balance of academic rigor and practical experience into the classroom, including the perspective necessary to thrive in today’s constantly changing regulatory environment. MSA courses are taught by faculty who bring years of experience as vice presidents, CPAs and corporate accountants to their teaching.
  • The MSA program goes well beyond the fundamentals to help students appreciate the accountant’s professional responsibility to individuals, small businesses and corporations. Our approach reflects Dominican’s long-standing commitment to social justice, and we are proud to offer service opportunities for real-world experience beyond the classroom.
