Welcome Weekend 2019 is an extension of the orientation program for Dominican University.

Welcome Weekend is a required for incoming freshmen students and is strongly encouraged for transfer students as well as all families and guests.

Freshmen students are required to minimally attend programming from 12 p.m. - 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 24.


The University welcomes new resident students to campus on Friday, August 23 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. There is an afternoon of programming on Saturday, August 24, designed for students and their families. Attendees will choose from a select offering of workshops, attend mass, and join President Donna Carroll at a reception for new students and their families. Students will also attend a meet up with their freshman seminar class. Saturday night and Sunday provide multiple social events for new and continuing students to meet and get excited about starting the school year together.

Students and their families will check-in for the Welcome Weekend program in Lewis Hall. You will receive a detailed schedule of the Welcome Weekend activities During this time, many offices and services will be open for students, families, and guests to visit, drop off paperwork, and ask questions. There is no official programming during this time.

Welcome Weekend Workshop Sessions

1–3 p.m.
Workshops for students, families, and guests to learn more about the Dominican community, academic life in college, and ways to find a place on campus.

Seminar Gathering (Students) & Family Resource Reception (Parents and Families)

3 – 4 p.m.
Students will attend a gathering of their freshmen seminar class, meet their Peer LEADer, and much more. Families will attend a resource fair style reception to learn more about supports available at DU.

Mass of the Holy Spirit (and blessing for all new students joining the DU community)

4 p.m.
Everyone is invited to join us as we bless our new students and their families, and welcome all to the DU worshipping community. Everyone is welcome to join us in this Eucharistic celebration.

New Student Ice Cream (and other frozen treat) Social

A time for students to socialize, meet other new students, and enjoy ice cream sundaes and other frozen treats.

DU Fest (students only, please bring student ID)

The Quad
3 p.m.
Students will join the Dominican University community in the Quad to kick off the new school year! The festival will include food trucks, live music and lots of free activities for the student community.
