The Office of Alumnae/i Relations cordially invites you to a presentation by the Honorable Mary Yu ’79, Washington State Supreme Court Justice. She will discuss her experiences as a first-generation student, how the mission of Dominican University inspired her passion for social justice, and how Dominican positioned her for success.
Justice Yu will be joined by Dr. Barrington Price, Vice President of Student Success and Engagement, who will address the realities faced by students today and how this newly formed division is ensuring that students are prepared for life beyond graduation.
Full Biography - The Honorable Mary Yu ’79 was raised in the South Side of Chicago by immigrant parents. As the first in her family to attend college, Justice Yu received her Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies from Dominican University. She went on to obtain her Masters of Arts in Religious Studies from Mundelein College of Loyola University, and her Juris Doctor from the University of Notre Dame Law School. Justice Yu unequivocally credits Dominican for her success today. Justice Yu is now the first Asian, the first Latina, and the first member of the LGBTQ community to serve on the Washington State Supreme Court. Justice Yu is the recipient of many awards, including the 2017 “Lifetime Achievement Award” from Northwest Asian Weekly, the 2015 “Woman of the Year” award from the Seattle University School of Law and Women’s Law Caucus, and the 2014 "Judge of the Year" award from the Washington State Association for Justice.
