Student Learning Goals and Outcomes

Students will:

  • Read literary texts with sensitivity to their formal, historical, and cultural contexts and with sensitivity to detail, ambiguity, and complexity.
  • Write with clarity and insight, awareness of critical theories and disciplinary methods, and sensitivity to the needs and expectations of audiences.
  • Promote justice by discerning diverse perspectives and recognizing relationships of power within specific literary works and institutions (e.g., canons, curricula, publications).
  • Prepare for profession by adapting skills in reading, writing, and analysis to various “real world” contexts.
