All students benefit from a study abroad semester or year, especially foreign language majors. Language students at Dominican can sharpen their skills and develop their cross-cultural awareness by spending a semester or year in Europe, Africa or South America.

Dominican’s study abroad programs are designed to foster academic and cultural growth. The university offers foreign language–based programs in French, Italian, Spanish and German.

Poitiers, France

Poitiers is a center for education, agriculture, industry and communications. A university town with a population of 120,000, Poitiers is a classic, provincial city with easy access to France’s larger metropolitan centers. Program participants study at the University of Poitiers, a highly regarded institution that provides a full range of top-quality courses in science, liberal arts, pharmacy and medicine, engineering, law, economics and management to some 24,500 students. Courses are taught in French by native French professors.

Milan, Italy

Students participating in this program live with Italian university students and/or young professionals in the fashion, financial and commercial capital of Italy. Students may enroll in a huge variety of courses, all of which are taught in Italian. Advanced language students may apply for internships.

Salamanca, Spain

Dominican students may spend one or two semesters at the University of Salamanca, Spain’s oldest and most prestigious university. All courses are conducted in Spanish, and students live with Spanish host families.

Córdoba, Andalucía, Spain

In Córdoba, the former capital of the al-Andalus, students will take Spanish and Arabic classes at the University of Córdoba. Afternoons and evenings will be devoted to visiting with local scholars and emblematic sites of the culture of Andalucía. Trips to the cities of Granada, Sevilla, Toledo and Tetouan in Morocco are included in this three-week cultural program.

Salzburg, Austria

The city of Mozart, Salzburg is an ideal location to begin or further your study of German. This small, gemütliche city lies in close proximity to Germany, other Western European countries and all of Eastern Europe. Although you don’t have to know German prior to spending a semester or year there, the program includes German language study along with courses offered in English.

Florence, Italy

Students of all disciplines are invited to participate in a four-week sojourn in the Renaissance city of Florence. Courses include Italian, literature and drawing. Group excursions include a day visit to Siena.

Short-Stay Programs

Shorter programs in Europe, Latin America, Africa and Asia offer a manageable alternative to semester-length options. These programs are very popular among students.
