Ethics, Social Responsibility, and Sustainability in Fashion

Dominican fashion students take seriously the University’s mission of creating a more just and humane world. Ethical and environmental concerns are increasingly important in the fashion industry, and our students are encouraged to engage thoughtfully and act responsibly as future industry leaders.

Dominican’s liberal arts foundation inspires fashion students to study, discuss and challenge the industry’s most pressing ethical issues throughout their four years. These include:

  • Fair and ethical labor practices within global fashion supply chains
  • Diversity, body positivity, and inclusive representation
  • Gender expression and identity in fashion
  • Responsible use of materials, including alternatives to animal-based products
  • Environmental impact reduction through sustainable fibers, dyes, and circular design practices

Through study, reflection and open dialogue, students gain the knowledge and perspective needed to shape a more responsible and sustainable fashion future. This commitment to ethical inquiry and meaningful action reflects the true promise of a liberal arts education.
