Engage in Service and Learn from Black Faith Traditions
Beloved Community is a faith formation and leadership development fellowship for students who are interested in learning from the experiences of Black communities and the spiritualities and faith traditions of African-descended peoples in and around the city of Chicago. Together students work in service toward Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s vision of achieving concrete peace and agapic love.
The program will place undergraduate and graduate students in churches and faith-based not-for-profits in Chicago’s west side communities and western suburbs. Students will spend nine hours per week in service at these fellowship sites and participate in one hour of theological reflection each week. Students are compensated with a stipend and may be eligible for academic credit with departmental approval.
Some of our community partners have included the Coalition for Spiritual and Public Leadership, the Maywood Fine Arts Association, New Mount Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church and Quinn Center of St. Eulalia in Maywood.
