As we approach open enrollment for 2020, we want to share important information regarding plans and rates that will be effective in January 2020.

Lower Premiums

We are pleased to announce that, based on participant usage/experience, Blue Cross Blue Shield decreased the university’s overall premium for 2020. The university has passed all of the savings onto participants. Thus, depending on your coverage election, your monthly premiums will be between 10-22% less than your 2019 monthly premiums.

In addition, MetLife provided us with a premium quote for dental coverage that allows us to reduce the employee monthly dental contribution by 22%.

Below are key points of note for 2020:
  • We are maintaining three health care plans (PPO, HDHP and HMO) with Blue Cross Blue Shield. There were no changes to the plan options from 2019.
  • Benefits enrollment will be online again this year. No action is required if you are not making any changes. However, we encourage you to log in regardless to confirm all plan choices and beneficiary elections.
  • If you are enrolled in a flexible spending account, you must re-enroll for 2020 if you wish to continue. Enrollment will be part of the online process through Paycor this year.
  • We will be moving to MetLife for our dental coverage effective January 2020.

Please review the 2020 Benefit Booklet for summary plan details as well as the Medical and Dental Rates for 2020 (pdf) for information on monthly premiums.

Thanks to the Faculty Compensation and Benefits Committee, the President of Staff Council, and the President’s Cabinet for their feedback on the renewals. The university will continue to work with those groups to ensure that we continue to provide exceptional health care options at sustainable costs.
