Open Enrollment: Monday, November 2 through Friday, November 13

As we approach open enrollment for 2021, we want to share important information regarding plans and rates that will be effective in January 2021.

Premium Changes

As always, we worked closely with CBIZ, our insurance brokers, and were able to secure minimal increases for both medical and dental benefits. The overall medical increase is 1.22%. We negotiated a 6% cap for 2021 when we switched to MetLife for dental last year. This worked to our benefit for this renewal period as our overall claims experience was higher than usual.

As we have done with increases and decreases in the past few years, we have kept the university contribution flat (for medical, this is budgeted at $4.5M or subsidizing roughly 80% of each plan option) and adjusted the employee rates accordingly. Based on these low rate increases, on average, employees will see an increase of approximately $17/month for medical and $5/month for dental assuming they make no changes to their elections.

Key Points of Note for 2021
  • We are maintaining three health care plans (PPO, HDHP and HMO) with Blue Cross Blue Shield. The university made no changes to the plan options from 2020.
  • Vision care is part of the healthcare coverage. Here is a short video outlining the vision plan.
  • Benefits enrollment will be online again this year through Paycor. No action is required if you are not making any changes. However, we encourage you to log in regardless to confirm all plan choices and beneficiary elections.
  • If you are enrolled in a flexible spending account, you must re-enroll for 2021 if you wish to continue. Enrollment will be part of the online process through Paycor this year.

Information Sessions

In lieu of in person Open Enrollment Sessions, Kelly Wilborn, Director of Client Services with CBIZ, has provided a video session. View the 20-minute presentation. She provides a high-level overview of medical and dental plans, as well as the auxiliary benefits (voluntary life insurance, EAP, flexible spending accounts and health savings accounts)..

Please contact Largo Krouse or Roberta McMahon with any questions about the 2021 Open Enrollment.
