The Dominican University Individualized Supervised Practice Pathway (ISPP) certificate program includes an emphasis on cultural diversity in child nutrition with 1200 hours of field experience divided between community, clinical, food management, and specialty rotations. The ISPP is designed for the development of dietetic professionals who are competent in all entry-level areas of practice, including cultural competencies particularly addressing child nutrition. This program fulfills the supervised practice requirements to sit for the examination for registered dietitians administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration. Upon completion, students receive a Verification Statement for application to take the RDN Exam.

This pathway meets the same goals and ACEND competencies as traditional supervised practice programs. To qualify for the ISPP, students must have a bachelor's degree, a Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) verification statement from an ACEND-accredited DPD program, and must not have received a match through the formal internship matching process. It is a good choice for individuals with practice doctoral degrees. Dominican University also offers an ISPP remote program for students who live outside of the Chicagoland area. Students in the ISPP remote program are required to secure their own rotation sites and preceptors. In order to do this successfully, the student must be a proven self-starter and adept at self-directed learning. The ISPP remote program is highly selective because of its limited number of annual seats. For information about how to apply for the distance ISPP, contact Moira Ford or Elisa Fischer.

Upon successful completion of an ISPP program, students will be eligible to take the CDR Registration Examination for Dietitians to become credentialed as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).

The Nutrition and Dietetics ISPP certificate program at Dominican University is currently granted accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND).
