Trauma Informed Mindfulness
12:30 p.m. (Virtual)
This session is a three-part program that will provide a foundation to understanding trauma as well as some practical strategies for utilizing mindfulness practices to navigate trauma. It will conclude with a sharing session with Dominican University’s community partners and informal consideration of opportunities to engage together in this work.
The 90-minute training includes theory and practice that will help in your personal work with trauma and in your professions.
Here is how the session is structured:
Part 1: Understanding Trauma
Bill Jenkins, associate professor of theater arts and music, and national speaker on trauma, will provide an overview of effects and implications of trauma on individuals and workplaces.
Part 2: Applying Mindfulness
Debra Vinci-Minogue, associate professor of education, and certified mindfulness coach will share effective mindfulness strategies to help navigate trauma.
Part 3: Exploring Work to Address Trauma in the Community
Representatives from Dominican University’s community partners are invited to share how their agencies engage with trauma informed interventions and mindfulness work. In this sharing session, we welcome informal conversation between those agency representatives, Professors Jenkins and Vinci-Minogue, and other DU community members about opportunities for fruitful partnerships in this essential work.
