Angelica M. Guillen, joined Dominican University as an adjunct first in the Spring of 2023 and joined the faculty of the School of Social Work as an Assistant Professor in the fall of 2023. Angelica has over 20 years of experience in community work and over 13 years of experience in working with individuals and families. Her experience ranges from on the ground community advocacy and case management to domestic violence, mental health, medical social work, unhoused youth, and education as a practicum and program director. Her target population has shifted over time and includes working with individual, families, children, youth, and older adults. Besides her work at Dominican, Angelica also supervises students and staff for clinical hours and is also a psychotherapist providing individual and family therapy.

Research Interests

Interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary gerontological research focusing on womxn’s issues, grandparents caring for grandchildren, loneliness, older adult experiences, the intersection of research, social work practice (micro/macro), social justice in social work education, social justice education, gender studies, gerontology, direct practice with individuals, families, couples, and community-based participatory research through an intersectionality lens
