Emily Compton-Dzak MLIS ’07 has been appointed as the new Director of the River Forest Public Library. She currently works as the Assistant Director and Head of Adult Services at Winnetka-Northfield Public Library District and has 20 years of experience in the library field.

Emily's start date will be January 25, 2021. She takes over as Director of the River Forest Public Library after fellow Dominican alumna Susan Quinn MLIS ’95 retired in October 2020.

Emily earned a master’s degree in library and information science from Dominican University and has worked with library patrons of all ages in many different settings. Her experience ranges from processing artifacts for the Chicago Public Library, to creating 3D prints with families in the Winnetka-Northfield Public Library’s makerspace, and finally helping to foster her own children’s love of reading through library collections and programs.

When asked what she is most looking forward to in becoming the next Director, Emily responded, “I am thrilled to be joining the creative and dedicated staff of the River Forest Public Library, and I most look forward to working with them to strengthen our community connections and solidify our place as an essential service.”
