Social work and business: a powerful combination. Add business management skills to social work expertise, and you can make a real difference for the people you serve.

Dominican University recognizes that if you possesses the skills and knowledge of both a social worker and a business professional you will be exceptionally well prepared to lead organizations of all sorts—non-profit, for-profit or governmental.

To provide this level of professional preparation, our School of Social Work and our Brennan School of Business have developed a dual degree program that allows you to complete both an MSW and an MBA in a shortened period of time and at a lower cost than if you earned them separately.

If you already hold a bachelor of social work (BSW) degree from a CSWE-accredited BSW program, you will be able to complete the MSW/MBA dual degree in two years as a full-time advanced standing student, and those without a BSW will need three years of full-time study to complete the dual program.

The degrees complement each other, and you will gain the combination of knowledge, experience and values essential for leadership in the human services system—and pretty much everywhere else.

Program Overview
  • Time to complete: Three years as a full-time student or, if you already have a CSWE-accredited BSW, two years as a full-time student; both options include summers
  • Reduced number of hours required for each degree
  • Coursework alternates between the schools each year, so you can focus on one area at a time
  • Gain valuable—and different—perspectives from the faculty and students in the two schools
  • Classes are offered at our campus in River Forest, which is just 10 miles west of downtown Chicago and all it has to offer
Where Will Your Diverse Skill Set Be Recognized?
  • Social welfare organizations
  • Hospitals
  • Philanthropic foundations
  • For-profit organizations (in areas such as human resources)
  • Government
  • To name just a few. The list could be much longer.
Expand Your Network

In both schools, classes are small and learning is team-based, so you will get to know your professors as well as your fellow students, and they will become key members of your professional network. Your network will also include alums in key positions in the Chicago area and beyond.
