Applying for Financial Aid

As soon as possible after October 1 prior to the start of the academic year. File the FAFSA.

Students who are ineligible to file the FAFSA and are Illinois residents can complete the Alternative Application for Illinois Financial Aid.

FAFSA applications received after the semester has ended cannot be processed unless the student is enrolled in the same academic year.

Priority deadline is set by ISAC annually for MAP grant consideration. For the 2024–2025 academic year, returning MAP eligible students should apply by December 1 for priority consideration.

Completing Verification & Submitting required documents: Returning Students

Priority deadline July 1. All documents must be submitted no later than two weeks prior to the last day of the semester for which you are requesting aid.

Returning undergraduate students will be notified of outstanding verification documents beginning in March. Verifications are completed in the order in which students submit all required documents.

Completing Verification & Submitting required documents: New Students Priority deadline May 1. All documents should be submitted no later than two weeks prior to the last day of the semester for which you are requesting aid.

New students to Dominican University will be notified of missing financial aid documents beginning in January. Verifications are completed in the order in which students submit all required documents.

Students cannot receive an official aid award until verification is complete.

Verification Forms

Accepting your financial aid award: Scholarships & Grants Scholarships and grants automatically accepted, no action required. Details on scholarships and grants.
Accepting your financial aid award: Student Loans Priority processing for submissions by July 1 prior to the start of the academic year.  May be submitted no later than two weeks prior to the last day of the semester for which you are requesting aid.

To access the Loan Confirmation Form go to MyDU > on the right side of the page in the Financial Aid box click on “To see your Loan Confirmation Form, go here.” You must be logged in to access this form.

Note that students must be enrolled at least half time to receive federal student loans.

Receiving federal student loans – MPN & Entrance Counseling Completed prior to receiving federal student loans for the first time at Dominican University. Should be completed prior to October 1 if enrolling in the fall semester.  Completed online at https://studentaid.gov/understand-aid/types/loans
Applying for a Parent PLUS loan Priority processing submission October 1. May be submitted no later than two weeks prior to the last day of the semester for which you are requesting aid.

Parent applies online.

Must submit Parent PLUS Authorization Form (pdf)

Student must be enrolled at least half time (6 or more credit hours) to be eligible. 

Applying for a private student loan Priority processing submission October 1. May be submitted no later than two weeks prior to the last day of the semester for which you are requesting aid. Students can go to any private lender of their choosing. Here is a partial list of lenders.

Private School Tuition Appeal Priority processing for submissions by July 1 prior to the start of the academic year. May be submitted no later than two weeks prior to the last day of the semester for which you are requesting aid.

Students who have a younger sibling may appeal their financial aid award based on out of packet tuition expenses paid in the current academic year.
