Jermaine Lawrence Anderson ’04 was recently featured in the Chicago Sun-Times as the mentorship organization he founded kicked off a month of free haircuts to Chicago youth heading back to school.

The haircut drive is taking place by appointment every Monday and Wednesday through Sept. 7 at the headquarters of Anderson’s organization, I Am A Gentleman, in Bridgeport.

Approximately 250 haircuts are expected to be given by the time the drive concludes.

“The reason we do this is because we want young men, especially from urban neighborhoods, to look good but also to feel good as they return to the classroom, because we believe that it will help them have a successful school year,” Anderson told the Sun-Times.

Anderson is the founder and president of I Am A Gentleman, which provides personal development classes, enrichment workshops, mentorship opportunities and various projects to youth ages 13 to 21 in order to “empower young men for successful careers, healthy lifestyles, marketable skills and well-balanced relationships,” according to the organization’s website.

Anderson received a bachelor’s degree in graphic design from Dominican University.
