Dominican University’s Siena Center will present New York Times best-selling author Rev. James Martin, SJ in a discussion of his most recent book Learning to Pray: A Guide for Everyone on Thursday, September 16 at 7 p.m. Register in advance for this free virtual program.

Rev. Martin is a Jesuit priest and editor-at-large of America magazine. He has appeared several times on Comedy Central’s “The Colbert Report” with Stephen Colbert. His acclaimed book Building a Bridge: How the Catholic Church and the LGBT Community Can Enter Into a Relationship of Respect, Compassion and Sensitivity (2017) was prompted by the 2016 shootings at Pulse, a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida. The book served as the basis for a documentary, “Building a Bridge,” which was executive produced by renowned filmmaker Martin Scorsese and premiered at the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival in New York City.

Rev. Martin was appointed in 2017 by Pope Francis to serve as a consultant to the Vatican’s Secretariat of Communications. He was invited to give the closing prayer at the 2020 Democratic National Convention.
