Berto Aguayo '16, co-founder and director of Increase the Peace, joined other community activists for a WTTW panel discussion marking the one-year anniversary of George Floyd's murder. "Voices: A Community Conversation" asked panelists for their thoughts on where the racial justice movement stands today.

Aguayo advised that he is focusing on how to foster multicultural relationships and coalitions to work alongside each other for justice, rather than fighting against each other. A year ago, Aguayo helped organize a Brown People for Black Lives event in Chicago's predominantly Latinx Little Village neighborhood. The event was followed by a Black and Brown Unity Car Parade with hundreds of cars displaying pan-African and Mexican flags.

"While it is challenging, it is possible to build multicultural coalitions to demand justice for everyone," Aguayo said during the program.
