The 2022 edition of Stella Veritatis, Dominican University’s student-led literary magazine, is now available — in print and online.

Featuring poetry, fiction, prose, drama, nonfiction and translation from 15 student contributors, copies of the magazine can be obtained in Crown 313 and in the Rosary College of Arts and Science office. Content can also be read online at www.stellaveritatis.org.

The magazine, subtitled “Sanctuary,” was released during DU’s Caritas Veritas Symposium on Sept. 20. Selections from each published piece were read before an audience by a group of students and alumni in Martin Recital Hall.

Dr. Maggie Andersen, assistant professor of English and faculty advisor to Stella Veritatis, described Stella Veritatis as “a way of telling student stories and making students feel a sense of belonging.”

The pieces published in this edition were submitted in 2021 and selected by students enrolled in the Editing the Literary Magazine course, English 334.

“What were our students thinking about in 2021? They were thinking of not wanting to be wives, they were thinking of neighborhood gangs, family they missed back in Mexico, dreams of their fathers,” Andersen said during the Sept. 20 release. “They were hoping their parents’ cancers would not come back. And they were thinking of baseball, flowers and Elvis Presley. They had been through a lot, but they were starting to see the light, which is why the editors have called this issue ‘Sanctuary.’”

Contributing to the 2022 magazine were writers Edgar Perez, Miriam Youhanoun, Aline Lamadrid, Jennifer Castrejon, IO Curtin, Prayer Childress, Andrea Betinis, Autumn Paschen, Jacob Garza, Matthew Williams, Cassandra Unzueta, Matthew Galdi, Jaquelin Martinez, Johnna Santos, and Shalom Barrallo.

Published annually, Stella Veritatis, Latin for “Star of Truth,” was first launched in 2015. The literary magazine was previously known as the Eagle.

Submissions for the 2023 edition will be accepted Sept. 30 through Nov. 1. All genres are welcome from undergraduates and graduate students, as well as faculty, staff and Sisters.

Submissions can be emailed to litmagazine@dom.edu.
