In the News: School of Social Work Alumna is ‘Woman of the Year’ Finalist

Remona Sanders MSW ’17 is featured on WGN 9 News as one of four finalists for the station’s 2024 Remarkable Woman of the Year Award. 

Sanders is the founder and executive director of Inellas Restoration Center in Maywood. The nonprofit center provides supportive services to survivors of domestic violence, as well as educational programs, like a course in building healthy relationships offered to Proviso Township high school students.

Impact of Libraries on the Global Community is Topic of Follett Lecture

River Forest, IL—Dr. Lynn Silipigni Connaway will present “Expanding Relationships: Libraries' Impact on the Global Community,” during the annual Follett Lecture on Monday, April 18 at Dominican University in River Forest.

The lecture will take place at 6 p.m. inside the Performing Arts Center’s Martin Recital Hall on the university campus at 7900 W. Division St.

In the News: Alumna’s Reimagination of the Stations of the Cross is Focus of ‘Chicago Catholic’ Article

The artwork of Jacqueline Romo ’19 is the subject of an article published by Chicago Catholic newspaper on Feb. 28, 2024.

Referencing the Stations of the Cross, Romo’s “The Passion of the Monarca Migrante” uses monarch butterflies to symbolize the struggles of migrants.

The monarch butterfly symbolizes Jesus and, in depicting the crucifixion, each woodcut printed panel also tells of migrant experiences. In the first station, for example, when Jesus is condemned to death, the butterfly is pictured caught in barbed wire, similar to imprisonment.

Student in Applied Social Justice Ph.D. Program Receives Unity Award for Equitable and Inclusive Work

Daniel Terrio, a member of the first cohort of Dominican University’s Applied Social Justice Ph.D. program, was a recipient of the 2024 Unity Award from Milwaukee magazine.

This annual award, presented to four individuals and one business on March 7, 2024, recognizes honorees for their achievements in making Milwaukee more equitable and inclusive.
