Required Courses

Thirty (10 classes x 3 hours) semester hours beyond FREN 102, including FREN 261 and/or FREN 262, FREN 302, plus one advanced (300-level) literature course. Students must register for course intensification in order to count FREN 289, FREN 290, or FREN 295 toward the major. A minimum of fifteen (5 courses x 3 hours) semester hours in the major field must be completed at Dominican. Students who study abroad and wish to have these courses count toward the French and Francophone Studies major or minor must have prior written approval from the discipline director.

Teacher Licensure: French grades K-12

Students who wish to teach French in kindergarten through 12th grades complete a major in French and Francophone Studies and complete the School of Education's Teacher Education Program for K-12 licensure.

Additional French Education Requirements
  • Professional education courses including EDUC 404 Instructional Strategies for Teaching Modern Foreign Language in the K-12 Classroom 
  • 100 hours of field experience
  • Oral Proficiency Interview: students must score at the minimum of advanced low level
