Earn College Credit for What You Already Know

The College of Applied Social Sciences (CASS) offers students the opportunity to receive college credit for prior learning. We understand that adult students often bring a wealth of work, life and learning experiences with them to the classroom. You can earn college credit toward one of our bachelor's degree programs for these experiences by proving competencies through Learning Portfolios.

How It Works

Once you've enrolled in one of our degree programs, you can take a free, self-paced online portfolio development course that will help you demonstrate the college-level learning you've experienced outside the classroom.

In this course you'll explore your background and prior experiences with learning outside the traditional classroom, such as professional work, military service or volunteering. These experiences will form the basis of your portfolio.

Portfolios that demonstrate competencies outlined in Dominican courses will earn credit for those courses. Students who receive transfer credit will be charged a nominal portfolio assessment fee.

CASS will accept up to 28 credit hours of ACE, CLEP and portfolio assessments combined.

Earning credit for what you already know can help you finish your bachelor's degree faster and at less cost than if you were to take all traditional coursework. Credit is also a confirmation of the value of the life experiences you bring with you to the classroom and the workforce. Graduating with a bachelor's degree from a respected, accredited university recognized for excellence in academics will position you for success in your career.
