Will I be able to participate in commencement ceremony with a balance?

Dominican University encourages students to participate in their graduation ceremony. However, to maintain the quality of education it provides, the University requires that students pay in full all charges relating to tuition, fees, room and board prior to the graduation date. Note that DU Stars Connect stops taking personal checks two weeks prior to the date of graduation. You may also pay on-line through the Online Payment Center with MasterCard, Discover, Visa or American Express. Currently Dominican University will hold diplomas and official transcripts until all balances are paid in full.

Under special circumstances, Dominican University may allow a student to participate in the graduation ceremony with an open balance. All special circumstances will be considered by appeal. For consideration, a student will need to submit an appeal to Latricia Heard, Director of Student Accounts. The appeal should state your outstanding balance and your plan for payment of the outstanding balance. If the appeal is approved, the student will be allowed to participate in the graduation ceremony. NO student participating in the graduation ceremony will be allowed to pick up their diploma and/or transcripts until the balance is paid in full.

When will I receive my diploma?

Diplomas will be mailed out 4–6 weeks after the conferral of degree date. Spring 2020 graduates conferral date will be mid-May. Students should receive their diploma no later than June 30, as long as they have met all academic requirements and their financial account is paid in full. For more details please visit the Student Accounts MyDU Page

Will I have access to my official transcripts with a balance?

Students with an outstanding balance and a Student Accounts (SA) hold will not have access to their transcripts or diploma until their balance is paid in full.  Student Accounts can release a transcript directly to a potential employer for the purpose of securing employment. For more details please visit the Student Accounts MyDU Page

Am I eligible for Latin Honors?

We do not announce Latin honors at the Commencement Ceremony. The Commencement program lists Latin honors for bachelor's degrees only. Latin honors are not awarded at the master’s level.

Latin Honors will be based on the cumulative grade-point average as of Spring 2020 term. Students who are not scheduled to complete their degree by the end of the Spring 2020 term will not have Latin Honors listed.

Honors degrees are awarded on the basis of the cumulative grade-point average of all baccalaureate coursework. If a student enters in or before the 2015–2016 academic year, they must complete a minimum of 62 credit hours at Dominican in order to qualify for these honors distinctions. If a student enters in the 2016–2017 academic year or later, they must complete a minimum of 56 credit hours to qualify.

Latin Honors     Cumulative GPA
Summa cum laude   3.9
Magna cum laude 3.7
Cum laude   3.5
