While we had so hoped to hold an in-person Commencement during Labor Day weekend for our Class of 2020 graduates, in addition to the Virtual Degree Conferral that we held on May 10, the requisite social distancing for keeping our community safe during the COVID-19 pandemic unfortunately makes that impossible. The beginning of Phase 5 of the Restore Illinois plan—after which gatherings greater than 50 people are allowed—is still unpredictable.

Therefore, we are reluctantly postponing Commencement and Candle & Rose until we can hold both safely on campus, with attendance by your family and friends. We know this is a disappointment for you, as it is for us. Once Phase 5 is well-established, we will re-survey graduates to determine your availability and interest in returning to campus for a live ceremony. We want to celebrate the resilience and accomplishments of the extraordinary Class of 2020!

In the meantime, we hope that your life is beginning to return to some normalcy as the country gradually reopens. We look forward to welcoming you back to campus and we thank you for your continued patience and understanding during this challenging time.
