Valerie Rangel teaches a range of courses in the apparel design discipline. She has extensive experience in the areas of fashion history, couture sewing, patternmaking, draping, and hand embroidery. As a designer, she was responsible for executing embroideries for renowned designers such as Armani, Pierre Balmain, Valentino, and Oscar de la Renta. Her research focuses on the interconnections between fashion and art, architecture, and technology. Recent publications include Dress and Disaster: Fashioning Creative Responses to Disaster in Fashion Style and Popular Culture and The Body Refashioned in Chandrika Marla’s Social Skin in Art and Deal.
