Transfer Student Event: A Taste of Nutrition Science at Dominican
This informative day will give Hispanic community college students and advisors an opportunity to visit our campus, enjoy a student-prepared lunch with our famed Recipe Box Café, and learn all about our food-related majors—Culinology® and Nutrition and Dietetics.
Dominican's Culinology® major was developed in conjunction with the Research Chefs of America (RCA) to merge culinary arts and food science to prepare graduates to work in the food industry as research chefs, product developers and test kitchen supervisors. It is an ideal career-enhancing degree for students who have completed culinary school are are looking to take on leadership roles in restaurants or create provide safe, affordable and delicious food products on the commercial level.
The nutrition and dietetics major prepares graduates for a wide variety of nutrition-related careers, including clinical dietitian, nutritionist, health educator, food service and product development. The program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) to provide preparation to sit for the exam to become a Registered Dietitian (RD). Students interested in the RD complete the major requirements and additional ACEND-mandated coursework to become eligible. Dominican also offers a certificate option for those who already hold an appropriate bachelor's degree from another institution and are interested in earning the RD credential.
Dominican also offers a minor in food industry management and the nation's only combined MBA/RD program, enabling gradaute students to simultaneously complete requirements to become eligible for the RD exam and earn an MBA in healthcare management.
