English as a Second Language Endorsement

This non-degree program is designed to enable certified teachers to obtain the additional State of Illinois Endorsement needed to provide English As A Second Language (ESL) instruction.

This program is designed for teachers who hold Illinois type 03, 04, 09, or 10 certificates who are:

  1. Employed currently in education programs serving English as a Second Language students.
  2. Preparing for or seeking employment as English as a Second Language teachers.

A person may apply for the State of Illinois English as a Second Language Endorsement upon satisfactory completion of the prescribed curriculum while maintaining a grade point average of 3.0 out of 4.0.

General Requirements

In addition to course work, candidates for English as a Second Language Endorsement must:

  1. Have 100 clock hours in English As A Second Language field experiences or have three months of teaching experience in an English As A Second Language program.
  2. Submit Form 73-52, Request for Endorsement as a Bilingual or English As A Second Language Teacher.
