Bilingual Endorsement

This non-degree program is designed to enable certified teachers with proficiency in another language to add the Bilingual Endorsement to their current Illinois certificate.

The Bilingual Endorsement program is designed for teachers who hold State of Illinois type 03, 04, 09 or 10 certification and are:

  1. Employed currently in bilingual education programs or
  2. Preparing for or seeking employment as bilingual education teachers.

Requirements

A person may apply for the bilingual endorsement upon satisfactory completion of the prescribed curriculum while maintaining a grade point average of 3.0 out of 4.0.

General Requirements

In addition to course work, candidates for the Bilingual Endorsement must:

  1. Complete 100 clock hours of bilingual field experience or have 3 months of teaching experience in a bilingual education program.
  2. Submit Form 73–52, Request for Endorsement as a Bilingual Teacher.
  3. Successfully complete a language proficiency examination.
