Whether you are an experienced educator seeking an advanced degree, a licensed teacher pursuing a program in educational leadership, or a career-changer feeling the call to teach, we have a program designed to address your professional needs.
Dominican University is a distinctively relationship-centered educational community. It is known for its rigorous and engaging academic programs, for the care and respect with which it mentors students, for its enduring commitment to social justice and for the enriching diversity of its students, faculty and staff. All candidates have full-time faculty advisors who assist them in setting their academic goals and mentor them throughout the program.
The mission of preparing teachers and administrators for schools has been part of Dominican University since its beginning as St. Clara Academy in Sinsinawa, Wisconsin, in 1848. We prepare candidates to be of service to students, families and schools. While the School of Education offers a range of programs and prepares diverse groups of individuals for a variety of roles in education, all share the common threads of our mission and commitment to fostering scholarship, leadership and service in our own practice as well as the practice of our candidates.
It is our goal to graduate teacher and principal candidates who can truly make a difference in meeting the educational and social needs of students in a society that is increasingly diverse and in a world that is increasingly interconnected. In so doing, we help to create a global citizenry and fulfill the mission of the university to “give compassionate service and to participate in the creation of a more just and humane world.”
I invite you to join our community of learners as we seek to make a difference in the lives of children.
