Family Weekend

The Parent and Family Programs Committee invites you to join the university community for this semester's Family Weekend. This weekend is about sharing the values of Dominican life with you: service, community, prayer and study.

Join us for a family service project with the Proviso-Leyden Council for Community Action as we take a trip to a surrounding school to paint murals. The murals, designed by students in the Berkely, Maywood and Melrose Park school districts will beautify what were once blank walls in elementary schools.

Then join us for a community dinner with staff from different student services offices at Molly Malone's in Forest Park a favorite local restaurant. After dinner enjoy tickets to this semester’s student production, The Art of Dining.

The weekend concludes on Sunday with Family Mass, followed by a special brunch and presentation on student engagement. If you missed the student production on Friday or Saturday, you can see the Sunday matinee.

The weekend is full of opportunities to connect with faculty, staff, students and alums as we share our history, values, experiences and programs with you. You’re welcome to join us for all of the weekend’s activities or select the ones that interest you the most. We're just glad to have you on campus for this great tradition.

Visit the O'Connor Art Gallery

Visit the campus art gallery on the fourth floor of Lewis Hall to view the current art exhibit, Pushing Paper, which features artists who utilize paper in myriad ways. The exhibition is made up of both process-driven works that push paper to its physical and formal limits by way of cutting, layering and building, and also works whose conceptual and formal agendas critically or playfully relate back to the idea of paper itself.

Though works in the show reflect disparate approaches to artmaking and a broad spectrum of subject matter, they are united by a reliance on a dynamic use of paper that is grounded in form and concept. The galley is open from 10:00am – 6:00pm Friday and Saturday.

Visit Downtown Oak Park

Take a short drive from campus to downtown Oak Park. Be sure to check out both parts of downtown- the main section at Lake and Marion Streets and another section at Lake Street and Oak Park Avenues. Or check out the Oak Park Arts District on Harrison Street. For more information on the local attractions, museums, shopping and restaurants check out www.visitoakpark.com or stop in the Oak Park Visitors Center at 1010 Lake Street. A selection of pamphlets and brochures on Oak Park are available at the Family Weekend Check-in tables.
