Monday, February 15, 2010 :: 10:00 a.m. location to be determined Performance Length: 60 minutes Recommended Grade Level: 6-12 This multi-faceted string quartet is becoming increasingly known for its creative programming and exciting collaborations which serve to illuminate music in new ways and invite audiences into a shared experience. Through their longstanding participation in Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Ensemble, a group dedicated to exploring the cultural intersections of the peoples along the ancient trade route, they have performed throughout the world, recorded three albums for Sony Classical, and have reached audiences through a series of educational initiatives, family concerts and media broadcasts. Ethos' integrates global instruments and playing styles into the conventions of Western chamber music to create a visually and aurally compelling experience. The ensemble's critically-acclaimed performances regularly feature numerous commissions and world premieres, traditional rhythms from India, West Africa and the Middle East, and landmark works by composers such as John Cage, Lou Harrison, Steve Reich and Frank Zappa. *Special family discounts available for public performance on the day before each Chamber Music event. |
