While many of the initiatives for global and civic engagement are only now being developed, there are a number of offices throughout the university that are working to expand Dominican students’ global engagement and engage them in lives of compassionate service. The following are just a few of them.

Mission

The mission of global and civic engagement is to prepare students for lives of vigorous citizenship, informed exchange and just action with others both close to home and across cultural and national boundaries. The office seeks to empower students’ participation in “the creation of a more just and humane world,” by offering them opportunities for cultural engagement, public deliberation, civil debate and civic activity that make informed, even inspired, action for a just and humane world possible.

New and Developing Initiatives

Over the next few years, global and civic engagement will expand its services to further welcome international students, increase domestic students’ opportunities for foreign study fellowships and provide all Dominican students with forums for cross-cultural exchanges, cultural expression, political advocacy and rigorous discussion of local, national and global matters of public concern. We invite everyone in the Dominican community to help us make the Office of Global and Civic Engagement a home for vital dialogue and public learning.
