Mary Minow to give 2012 Follett Lecture

River Forest, IL - Dominican University’s Graduate School of Library and Information Science (GSLIS) will present its annual Follett Lecture on Tuesday, March 13 at 6:00 p.m. in the Martin Recital Hall, Fine Arts Building, 7900 W. Division Street, River Forest. Mary Minow, 2011-12 Follett Chair in the GSLIS, will speak on “Ebooks and the Reader.”

Minow will discuss timely and groundbreaking issues such as confidentiality of ebook reading records; different ways to access ebooks including purchase, rental, and library lending; a constantly changing rights and permissions environment; and more. The simple days of libraries purchasing books and lending them to the public are waning in an era of increasingly digital data. Minow will consider the current state of the art as well as what the future may hold.

Minow was appointed by President Obama to the National Museum and Library Services Board. She manages the Stanford Copyright and Fair Use website and founded the Library Law blog. In addition, she serves on the board of the Electronic Privacy Information Center, as well as the board of the Freedom to Read Foundation.

One of only four chairs in library science in the country, the Follett Chair is bestowed upon a master researcher and scholar who has achieved renown in the profession. The chair is endowed through a gift of the Follett Corporation.

This free lecture is sponsored by the Graduate School of Library and Information Science. To reserve a space, please visit http://www.dom.edu/gslis/cpe/register.html.
