The
Dominican University Stars are rising to the top of the Northern Athletics Conference preseason
rankings. The men’s soccer team and volleyball team are ranked #1 in the NAC preseason polls and
the women’s soccer team is pegged at #2.
All three teams open the season next week.
The men’s team kicks off against the University of Chicago Maroons at 2:00 p.m., Thursday,
September 1. The women’s team follows with a match against Elmhurst College at 5:00 p.m. The
volleyball team will square off against Elmhurst at 4:00 p.m., Friday, September 2 at the Elmhurst
College Invitational.
“It’s exciting for our student-athletes to be recognized this way, and it’s based a lot on
the successes each of our teams had last year,” said DU Director of Athletics Erick Baumann. “With
new head coaches for our women’s soccer and volleyball teams, it’s an exciting time for the DU
Stars.”
The men’s soccer team finished last year ranked #13 nationally in Division III with a 19-2-1
record. Women’s soccer boasted a 15-5-1 record last season, a mark new head coach Ellen Brown will
look to build on. New volleyball coach Ryan Baumgartner inherits a team coming off its strongest
season ever, having finished 26-10 and making its first NCAA Division III Championships.
The preseason rankings, available at
northernac.org, are determined by votes from
the conference’s head coaches.
