Bio

McKinley Johnson is a professional cutter, draper, costume designer, tailor, and patternmaker. He has worked with Broadway and fashion designers such as Susan Hilferty, Birgit Rattenborg Wise, Paul Tazewell, and Michael Alan Stein. He tailored menswear for the Goodman Theatre for over twenty years and his costume designs have been seen in such theaters as Open Door Repertory, Black Ensemble Theatre, and Chicago Theatre Company. Mr. Johnson has been an educator for the past fifteen years, teaching a wide range of technical and design classes in which he mentors students in gaining inspiration from classic couture designers, period costume, and the spirit of the times.
