Finding Books

Where to look

  1. Search the DU Online Catalog to find books, movies, movies, and other items at Dominican University.
  2. Search the I-Share Catalog. You can borrow most of the items listed in this catalog and have them sent right to Dominican or another academic library in Illinois.
  3. Search WorldCat Local. This allows you to search the DU library, I-Share, and libraries worldwide from one box.

If you started in the Dominican library catalog and don't find what you need, you can automatically link to the I-Share catalog.

If you know the title...
Type the title of the book without the initial article (a, an, the). Select "Title" from the drop-down menu.

If you know the author...
Type the last name, then a comma, then first name. Select "Author" from the drop-down menu.

Find books on a specific topic...
Type the subject word. Select "Subject" from the drop-down menu.

Advanced search tips

  1. Divide your search into individual concepts. For example,  art and the 20th century; or education in Illinois. Phrases are placed in quotation marks: "united states",   "nineteenth century",   "clinical psychology".
  2. Click on Advanced Search. Type each concept of your search into a search box.
  3. Type the word "or" between synonyms in the search box. For example: teens or teenagers, America or "United States".
