Requesting Books for Purchase
Please send any requests for materials to your library liaison. Find your department's library liaison here. Email is the easiest way to send requests, but we will also take requests over the phone and in writing. Requests should be made at least 12 weeks prior to the date needed. When your materials are processed and on the library shelves, Library Acquisitions will notify you via email. The library materials budget is divided by department. The budgets for some department are broken down into sub-categories. Your liaison will notify your department of the available funds periodically throughout the fiscal year (July - June), including at the start of each semester and in March when we accept the last orders for the year.
You may receive lists of new academic books in your discipline(s) from the Choice Reveiws Online database. "Choice: Current Reviews for Academic Libraries is the premier source for reviews of academic books, electronic media, and Internet resources of interest to those in higher education. More than 35,000 librarians, faculty, and key decision makers rely on Choice magazine and Choice Reviews Online for collection development and scholarly research.” (From Choice’s About Us page) Steps for setting up your alerts (pdf)
Library Instruction Program
Information literacy is one of the Foundation Requirements at Dominican University and must be completed before graduation. Instruction is incorporated into English 102 or the alternative workshops for students who do not take this course. The librarians also offer instruction to a large variety of classes at the request of instructors, give orientations for incoming students, and meet with groups as requested.Reserves and Copyright
