Eco-Friendly Printing FAQ

Eco Friendly Printing at Dominican University!

There has been so much paper left over we are making an effort to become more environmentally and economically friendly! We are now instituting a new way to print your documents here at the Rebecca Crown Library of Dominican University.

You may have noticed over the past few months we have installed new printers on each floor of the Library. This new printing method will allow you to print anywhere on campus up to twelve hours after you originally click ‘print’.

Dominican University students, Faculty and Staff will need to login on the printer using their personal login and password to get print jobs at no charge. (During our pilot program Guests and Alumnae/i are directed to the Reference or First Floor Circulation Desk where they will be issued a temporary one-day login/password).  Printing is by University assigned Login and Password only, temporary logins receive 20 pages of free printing. One temporary login per person, per day will be issued.

Printing FAQs

Where are the Printers Located?

There are printers located on each level of the library.

Can I print on different types and sizes of paper at Dominican?

Do you have a color printer in the library?

Sorry, we do not have any color printer available at this time.

How Much Does Printing Cost?

Printing is free to all active Dominican University Students, Faculty and Staff using their University Login and Password.  During our pilot program Guests and Alumnae/i are directed to the Reference or First Floor Circulation Desk where they will be issued for a temporary one-day login/password (one temporary login per person, per day).  Temporary logins receive 20 pages of free printing.

If I am logged into a computer as a Guest can I send documents to print?

It is important that Dominican University Students, Faculty and Staff log onto any computer that they will be using to create documents or search for documents needed to print with their individual login and password. This will enable them to bring up their documents to print at no charge. Guests/Alumnae of Dominican University will need to use a temporary Login/Password to print.

How can I print several articles one after the other?

When you send several articles or other print jobs to the printer, you will see each one individually displayed in the print queue. You will have the option to highlight and print several files at once – or print one item at a time.

How do I get reimbursed for bad print jobs?

There are no cash reimbursements or credits made to personal accounts. If you have bad prints, show them to the library staff at the nearest service desk. In certain circumstances the Library will reprint your file.

How do I print duplex (double sided) or single sided?

Instructions (PDF). All printers in the library will be set up to print single-sided by default. If you prefer to print your document double sided (duplex), you need to change the printer settings by following the instructions on the screen at the time of printing.

What can I do if the printer does not print after my printing job is sent?

Since all print jobs are sent over the network, it may take over a minute sometimes for the printer to receive the data when the network is busy. If the printer shows your request in your print queue and it does not print when requested please ask for assistance from the nearest library service desk.

As a Guest/Alumnae user , what happens if I don't have enough credited pages on my  temporary account for a printout?

If you authorize a print job but your temporary account does not have enough credited pages, your job will not print.

How do I print a document?

Click “file” and “print” as you would normally do.  The computer will prompt you accept or cancel the job. By clicking “ accept” the job will be sent to your personal print queue for you to retrieve either at that time or any time during the next 12 hours after you sent the job. You may print your documents at any printer in the Library, on the Main Campus or at the Priory Campus.

Next go to one of the printers located in the library or on one of the campuses.

Follow the instructions on the touchscreen located on the front of the printer to complete printing your document.

Once you login with your Dominican University Login and Password your personal print queue will come up on the printer touchscreen for you to choose documents to print individually or all at one time. You may also delete any print jobs.

Where do I go if I have a question or problem about printing?

We hope you will feel free to stop by any of the Library’s service desks or to ask any library employee about any questions or problems you may have.
