New Printing Information
DU Campus News Announcement
Go Green, Print Lean
Did you know that each day, one ream of paper – that’s 500 sheets – is wasted in unclaimed or unplanned printing in the library alone? That’s more than 35 cartons and nearly a ton of paper each year! In an effort to be more mindful of the global environment and encourage more thoughtful printing, the Rebecca Crown Library and IT Department will launch a pilot initiative designed to reduce wasteful printing.
Beginning Tuesday, September 8, all computers in the library will require an individual login and password to use the workstation and activate print jobs. When a user sends a project for printing, he/she will be prompted for their login and password at the printer. The user will then be asked to approve or cancel the print job. Any unclaimed print jobs will be automatically deleted from the print queue overnight.
While printing for students, faculty and staff will continue to be provided at no cost, the library will realize significant savings on the purchase of paper, ink and printer supplies. Guests to the library may request a temporary login and password good for their visit to campus that day, with a complimentary 20 prints during this pilot phase.
At the conclusion of the pilot, a self-serve Kiosk will be installed on the library lower level that will allow guests the ability to create their own login and passwords, and pay for printing as you go. Printing and copying will cost .10 per page – the same low cost as neighboring public libraries.

“As a student I wanted an intimate community. As an aspiring journalist I wanted a big city. Dominican gave me both—and so much more.”
