Interfaith Eid al-Adha

Bridging Cultures: Muslim Journeys

October 21, 2013
Offered by Oak Park Public Library, River Forest Public Library, Dominican University's Rebecca Crown Library
Presented by Dominican University's Saudi Club

Eid al-Adha (Festival of Sacrifice), one of the most important Islamic holidays, occurs across the Islamic world at the same time as the annual Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia. The event commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his own son, Ismael, as a way of demonstrating his submission to God.

The celebration is the first of several events being presented this fall as part of a National Endowment for the Humanities-funded community-wide program exploring Islamic art, culture and history. Subsequent activities will be held throughout the fall at both local libraries as well as the university.

Dominican’s Saudi Club is a student organization which seeks to build understanding and respect between people from multiple religious and cultural backgrounds through the sharing of ideas and experiences.
