Major

The major in international relations and diplomacy is an interdisciplinary program requiring courses in political science, economics, history and modern foreign language. Students in this major are especially encouraged to take advantage of one of Dominican University’s study-abroad programs to London, Strasbourg, Florence or Milan.

Major Requirements

  • Political Science 170, 240 or 250; 343
  • Two courses in political philosophy
  • Four courses in world politics
  • Two years university level language training or equivalent
  • One course in European history at the 200 level or above
  • One course in each of two different political areas outside of Western Europe
  • Capstone course: International Studies 403

A minimum of one half the courses in the major field must be completed at Dominican.

Acquire the specializations needed to participate effectively in the challenge of today’s global problems. Study relationships among countries, governments, peoples and organizations. Become knowledgeable about a variety of perspectives on war, poverty, disease, trade, economics, globalization and diplomacy. Study and fluency in at least one foreign language – preferably more than one – is essential.
