Majors
For students interested in medicine or allied health fields, an interdisciplinary biology-chemistry major is recommended. This major includes:
- Seven courses in each discipline (a total of 14 courses) to be selected in consultation with the faculty of each discipline. Ordinarily, the biology sequence includes five laboratory courses, and the chemistry sequence includes Chemistry 371-372.
- A minimum of three courses in biology and three courses in chemistry must be completed at Dominican.
Majors in biology-chemistry may elect to earn the Bachelor of Science degree or the Bachelor of Arts degree. Major requirements are the same for both degrees.
Courses
INDEPENDENT RESEARCH OR CREATIVE INVESTIGATION (1-3)
Introductory, Intermediate, Advanced, Senior Thesis Independent Research or Creative Investigation is a course in which students collaborate with facultymentors on an ongoing faculty research project or conduct an independent project under the guidance of a faculty member. This directed undergraduate research or creative investigation culminates in a conference presentation, journal article or other creative/scholarly project.

Position yourself for a graduate program leading to a career in medicine, health sciences, pharmacy, veterinary sciences or dentistry. This interdisciplinary major includes seven courses each in biology and in chemistry.
