Placements
Dominican University is one of the first GSSW programs in the nation to offer a globally focused, family-centered concentration in its master’s of social work program. The international component can be implemented in two different ways:

First Year (Foundation)

During the first year of the regular two year MSW program, students will complete their internship in local agencies that have either a community development or an international focus. These agencies combine the community practice as well as the international aspect of the concentration.

Second Year (Concentration)

In the concentration year, the student can choose to stay in the US and complete their placement at either a community development or an international agency. If the student wants to travel abroad in the concentration year, they have the option to complete a 10 week international field placement at an approved international site. Students depart in the 2nd week of Spring term to their international placement while remaining an electronic member of the classes via Skype, blogs, Wiki, email and Blackboard. Students will be assigned an international advisor to assist in preparing for their international placement.
